Your questions, answered:
You can request a Plan whether you are an heterosexual couple, a same-sex couple, or you are going through IVF on your own. You are also able to get a Plan regardless of whether you have a child, been through IVF before or you already have frozen embryos stored.
We do have some insurance eligibility criteria. The BMI of the embryo carrier must be below 35 and your insurance premium cannot exceed a certain portion of your treatment costs. We do not have an explicit age limit. Most people below 38 years old will be eligible for a Gaia Plan. For those above 38 years old, this is usually dependant on your selected IVF procedures, for example using donor eggs.
We do also run an initial soft credit and affordability check to ensure the plan is affordable for you. And you need to be UK domiciled for the duration of your policy. This means your permanent address is in the UK.
For all your rounds of IVF, we cover all essential procedures. This means: your nurse consultation, treatment monitoring scans, treatment monitoring blood tests, egg collection, sedation, fertilisation (ICSI when applicable), blastocyst culture, fresh or frozen transfer, embryo freezing, 1 year of storage, and medication up until 12 weeks of pregnancy. We also cover egg and sperm donation fees if applicable. We do not cover treatment add-ons where there is limited evidence of improving chances by the HFEA, you can find a list of those add-ons here.
We cover you once you start your IVF treatment. As such, we do not cover diagnostic tests, initial consultation fees and pre-treatment screenings.
We cover most private clinics and NHS hospitals in the UK that are regulated by the HFEA as well as clinics within the EU.
If you want to get more information on the process of choosing a clinic, we have some tips on our clinics page.
