Your Gaia Plan

What happens during my Plan?

Your Gaia Plan allows you to go through all the treatments you need for a much smaller upfront payment per round (the insurance premium), and you only repay an affordable monthly amount when you have a child.

Start your treatment by paying Gaia your first insurance premium for your first round.

Throughout your treatment, Gaia will handle all your payments, paying for your procedures and medications in full, and give you access to continuous support.

The same process happens for every round of treatment you need to have your child. You pay a premium, we pay your clinic, and you undergo your treatment.

When you have a child, you pay back the costs of all the rounds you’ve used in monthly repayments. Your first payment would be made 1 month after your due date.

If you don't have a child at the end of your Plan, you do not pay back any of your treatment costs.

What is a round of IVF?

A round is an attempt at an embryo transfer. This can be a fresh embryo transfer after an egg collection or from fertilising donor eggs, or it can be a frozen embryo transfer (FET) using embryos that have been previously stored. For example, if you do one egg collection, with one fresh embryo transfer and two subsequent frozen embryo transfers, this would equal three rounds.

How did you calculate my premium?

Your premiums are calculated based on your chances of success, the type of treatment you're having, and your clinic’s treatment costs. Premiums are used to cover Members who are unsuccessful at the end of their Gaia Membership.

Why do you only insure for up to 6 rounds?
plus icon in circle

Your Gaia Plan has been designed to be fair and affordable: being insured for up to 6 rounds is sufficient for close to 90% of our members to have a child, and ensures that the monthly repayments of your loan remain affordable.

This also means that for our members who have gone through all their covered rounds and have not had a child, they are insured by their Plan, even if they have remaining frozen embryos stored.

Can I get a Plan for less than 6 rounds?

You might be eligible to be covered for less than 6 rounds, get in touch with us once we have sent you your Gaia Plan. Our 6-round Plan is the most popular among our Members.

How are you different from multi-cycle and refund packages?
plus icon in circle

There are two main benefits of using a Gaia Plan as opposed to paying for a multi-cycle or refund package: with Gaia, you only pay for the treatments you need and nothing more. Most people who purchase multi-cycle packages will be successful early, and end up overpaying for their actual treatment costs. The other main benefit is that the Gaia Plan also includes your medication at a fixed price.

Additionally, your Gaia Plan makes IVF more accessible as you start by paying Gaia an insurance premium upfront for every round, as opposed to the full treatment or package cost.

Your Gaia Plan is more inclusive: whether you have had IVF before or have previously frozen eggs or embryos, you are able to use our Plans and choose whether to go through another egg collection or have an FET. For each round, you’re in control if you want to use all your frozen embryos or go through another egg collection round, and importantly, you can switch clinic if you decide to. We also do not have an explicit age limit.

I have enough to fund the treatment myself, what’s the benefit in using Gaia?
plus icon in circle

Your Gaia Plan provides you with insurance coverage of your treatment costs: if you do not have a child, you do not repay anything. It also provides certainty around the cost of your treatment, by fixing the cost of your medication.

Additionally, your Gaia Membership gives you access to an independent Embryologist, 12 counselling sessions and our Gaia Community.

What happens if I am not successful?
plus icon in circle

If your reach the end of your Gaia Membership and do not have a child, you do not have to pay back your treatment costs, Gaia has already taken care of all your clinic payments, and you are covered by your insurance.

Can I stop IVF before I’ve finished my rounds?
plus icon in circle

We would never force you to continue treatment if you wanted to stop. If you decide to cancel your Gaia Membership before you either had a child or completed the rounds you are insured for, then you would have to pay back the cost of the treatments you had. This is to make sure the collective insurance premiums are sufficient to cover those being unsuccessful in their covered rounds. However, if your doctor says it is medically necessary for you to stop your treatment and provides proof of this, then you would not have to pay anything back.

Can I change clinics and / or procedures?

You can change clinic and procedures during your Gaia Membership. We would need to adjust your premium payments, as it would usually mean your treatment costs would change.

Applying for your Plan

How do I become a member?
plus icon in circle

If you haven’t already had it, book your initial consultation with your chosen clinic.

When they send you a quote for your treatment, share it with us so we can check the cost of your Gaia Plan is accurate and communicate with you if there are any add ons we are unable to cover.

Meanwhile you (and your partner if applicable) can submit your credit and affordability checks so we can assess your eligibility and calculate your personalised interest rate (this is a soft credit check to begin with so it will never impact your credit score, a hard check will only be done when you’ve signed your membership agreement).

After the above steps are complete, we’ll send your membership agreement and you'll pay your first round premium to become a Gaia Member (either in full, or in 5 monthly instalments): Gaia will then pay your clinic in full for your first round so you can focus on your treatment. We need your first premium payment at least a few days before your clinic requires payment for treatment and medication.

How does the credit check work?
plus icon in circle

If you choose to go ahead with your Gaia Plan, we will ask you and your partner (if applicable) to confirm your identity, credit and affordability score. We also give you the choice to use Open Banking instead of sharing your latest three payslips with us to have more accurate and up-to-date financial information.

At this stage we do what's called a 'soft' check, so it will never affect your credit score.

Once you’re ready to sign your membership agreement we will then run a ‘hard’ check. This means other credit lenders will be able to see that a company looked up your score. They won't be able to see that it was Gaia specifically.

What is a treatment quote?

This document shared by your clinic outlines all the IVF treatment and procedures that you will be using for your IVF, with prices. It may include additional add-ons.

Note that prices listed by the clinic are typically the base prices for IVF and most often do not include the other necessary costs that you will incur as you go through your IVF journey and medication. The price we have listed in your Gaia Plan for your IVF treatment includes your clinic's base cost of IVF treatment, in addition to other necessary treatments and medication that you would be charged for throughout your IVF round.

Who is Fintern?

Fintern Ltd is the FCA regulated partner we work with to provide you with the loan that supports your IVF journey. You’ll see their name on your loan documents but will only have to deal with Gaia.

Repaying your treatment costs

How long can the repayment period be?
plus icon in circle

Our default repayment period is 8 years, but you can decide to pay in a shorter period of time. Our loan is flexible, and you can make lump sum payments and repay back at any time with no fees. You only start to repay after you have a child.

What is the interest rate?
plus icon in circle

Your interest rate is personalised and will be communicated to you after you apply to your Gaia Plan online. Your interest is 0% from the moment you sign to the moment you have a child and fixed afterwards at a maximum of 18% (and can be lower depending on your credit score). Gaia covers all the interest during the treatment and pregnancy, saving you potentially thousands of pounds against comparable loans.

What will the loan amount be?
plus icon in circle

Your repayment amount will depend on your clinic and the treatments you will need to have a child. You can see all the scenarios detailed in your personalised Gaia Plan online and in your membership agreement. In the most expensive scenarios, for example if need to undergo many egg collection rounds, your loan is capped so you never have to repay an unaffordable amount: Gaia will cover the rest.
