Is there insurance that covers IVF?

IVF is expensive and it’s hard to know how many treatments you might end up needing, and whether you will be able to afford it. This is why we created the world’s first IVF insurance meaning you’ll go through all treatments for around 30% of the cost, and only repay an affordable monthly amount when you have a child. Nothing more if you don’t.

Does private health insurance cover IVF?

Every private health insurance provider is different. It’s important to ask your provider for a full breakdown of what their policies include. Some might cover a full range of fertility treatments, including IVF. Others might only cover fertility testing. And others might cover no fertility-related treatments at all.

If they do cover IVF treatment, know that they may restrict your choice of doctor.

Another important factor is that a lot of fertility clinics won’t accept payment authorisation codes often used by private health insurance providers. This means you’ll still have to come up with the money up front. Only once you’ve paid the clinic can your private health insurance provider reimburse you. And there can be a lot of admin involved.

Why should I consider IVF insurance with Gaia?

“In the same way that you insure your house or your car, it’s security in case you need it and if you don’t need it then it hasn’t cost you the earth.” – Emily, Gaia Member

We know from experience that IVF isn’t just financially painful. It’s also emotionally and physically painful. Not to mention a constant learning curve. It’s hard to know how many treatments you might end up needing, and extra costs can spiral.

We exist so that you never have to pay for your full treatment costs up front. We take care of your payments, so that you can focus on your treatment.

Our Gaia Plans not only cover all essential IVF treatments and medication, but they also cover 6 sessions of counselling, plus access to an embryologist, a support line, groups and Member events. We’ll fix all your cycle costs upfront, so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting, and how much your repayments would cost when you have a child.

Unlike other insurance products, you are not restricted to a specific clinic. You are able to get a Gaia Plan with any HFEA registered clinic in the UK and selected clinics within the EU.

How does The Gaia Plan work?

1. Start for a simple protection fee

We will fix your cycle costs upfront and pay your clinic on your behalf, including all your medication costs and unlimited embryo transfers.

2. Pay us back over time only if you have your child

When you have your child, you then start paying back your treatment costs in monthly instalments over 8 years.

If you don’t have a child in 3 cycles, you don't have to pay for your treatment costs.

3. Flexibility if you decide to stop without a child

If you decide to stop before you complete 3 cycles of IVF, we'll discount your cycle costs.

How much does IVF cost with Gaia?

The protection fee you pay before each cycle is typically 20-30% of the cost of your treatment. This is additional to the cycle cost, and is what protects you against having to pay for the full cost of the treatment if you don’t have a child and allows us to fix your cycle costs upfront and handle all your bills and expenses.
